Walk Durham, Run Durham and Cycle Durham are initiatives set up to deliver a wide range of walking, running and cycling opportunities across the whole of County Durham.
Walking has been described as the perfect exercise, not only is it free, it’s also a great way to get active and meet new people. If you’re looking to get active join Walk Durham on one of our free weekly walks, taking place across County Durham. All walks are led by a trained leader and last for 30-90 minutes, ideal for beginners.

Get into running by joining one of our free Couch to 5K courses. Couch to 5K is an easy way of getting fitter, happier and healthier in just 10 weeks. The course involves a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina. the weekly sessions are approximately 45 minutes in duration and include a warm up and cool down.

If cycling is more your thing, but it’s been a while, join one of our Sofa to Cycle courses. These courses are designed to help build your confidence and will progress from cycling in a quiet traffic free environment, to eventually cycling on quiet roads, with helpful hints and tips along the way.
Cycle Durham also offers a free programme of weekly rides suitable for beginners and intermediate cyclists.
Don’t have a bike, don’t worry we can loan you a bike and helmet free of charge.
